Time to get cozy with some of your favorite subscriptions for September, so here’s a few of my current obsessions and binge-worthy shows and movies you’ve better be watching!
1. Power Book IV: Force on STARZ
Tommy Egan is back with Season 2 and he’s ready to avenge the death of his friend Liliana and takeover the drug territory all over Chicago. This season is juicy with a new love interest, new crews and new drama.
2. Run the World on STARZ
This is actually on my watch list because last season left me wanting more. The girls have returned but it seems that one of the cast members may not be in this season so I’ll have to watch to see what’s to it. I love a good Black girl version of Sex in the City, I just hope the conflict on this show continues to keep my attention. I’ll return with my review.
3. Operation Fortune on STARZ
Jason Statham is taking on a mission that has him going all over the world to stop a deadly mission and just so happens to make us laugh while doing it. I enjoy action films, so this was fun to watch.
4. The Other Black Girl on Hulu
My current obsession that I’ve been watching with my best friend and we are HOOKED! A necessary show because not only is the storyline fresh and new but it’s relatable as it gives insight to what it’s like in the workforce as a Black woman. Let’s just say for now it’s a mystery about a new Black girl in the office with the result of weird occurrences going on as she arrives. A must-see!
5. Survival of the Thickest on Netflix
I looked forward to this show coming out because as a Plus-size Black woman, there are not a lot of shows about us in the world of fashion, or being our own boss, let alone finding love. And this show definitely gives you that ecstatic and was a breath of fresh air, so thank you Netflix. We need more of this!
6. Black Mirror on Netflix
The new season of Black Mirror is suspenseful and spicy. It’s only 6 episodes but the first couple episodes definitely keep you on your toes. Could they have done more episodes? Yes. Where’s the effort you guys?? Oh wait, there is a strike going on… nvm.
7. Heart of Stone on Netflix
I was skeptical about watching this at first because I’m like “ugh, another spy mission movie..”, but this one caught me by surprise. There’s a special plot twist and it’s exciting to watch with the suspense of the world possibly going to end, because what movie doesn’t include that?
8. Harley Quinn on HBO Max
Although, I’m a Marvel girl at heart, I love my girl Harley. The new season continues with Harley and Poison Ivy as they try to be their best selves at their jobs…while trying to constantly save the world and juggle their love life. This gruesome and explicit yet comedic show tends to bring out the best in us.
9. Spider-Man, Across the Spider-verse on Prime Video
Miles Morales enters the Spider-verse once again but this time with a different mission. As a new villain threatens the world, Miles connects with some old friends and tries to figure out who he is in the process. An amazing film with graphics out of this world and an All-Star cast, makes me want to watch it again. Looking forward to the next one!
